The Office of Academic Planning and Assessment was created in 2008 to meet the University’s growing needs for institutional data, analysis, and assessment. It includes both the Office of Institutional Research and Planning and the Office of Survey Research and Analysis which work together to provide a comprehensive analysis and interpretation of institutional data.

The Associate Provost of Academic Planning and Assessment, Cheryl Beil, reports to both the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Planning and the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning to coordinate administrative planning and manage connections between administrative and academic planning groups. Associate Provost Beil also serves as GW’s official liaison with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Our mission is

  • to collect, analyze, and interpret data and other relevant information about GW’s academic, administrative, business, and research environment and performance;
  • to transform and contextualize data, analysis, and interpretations into usable information for planning, evaluation, and decision making; and
  • to manage and facilitate the campus learning outcomes assessment process to improve teaching and learning.
