Master Program Data Form
To Propose a New Program
The elements indicated here are to be included with an Master Program Data Form (MPDF) proposing a new program:
- The learning outcomes (knowledge obtained, skills developed) of the program and how required courses contribute to achievement of those learning objectives. See www.gwu.edu/~assess.
- If another department or school offers a similar program, what is different about the proposed program? How does the proposed program complement existing programs?
- If new or changed courses are part of the program, include applicable MCDFs.
- The market for graduates of the program in graduate/professional education or in the workforce. If a certificate program, articulation with existing degree program(s). See ifap.ed.gov for federal regulations regarding certificate programs that are Title IV eligible and can lead to gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
- The target audience and likely sources of prospective students, current and anticipated local/regional/nationwide competition.
- If another department/school’s courses or facilities are part of the program; include a memo from that unit indicating its agreement.
- Business Plan: Over a five-year period, list projected incremental enrollments/revenues and expenditures (faculty and staff salaries, with fringe benefits; office, lab, equipment, supplies, computing, special activities, marketing, etc. Be sure that any funds for projected graduate student financial assistance (i.e., GTA salaries, stipends, and tuition awards) is included in the program budget.
To Change an Existing Program
Indicate the current name and type of program and the specific changes to be made. If additional resources will be required or if the change will have an impact on another department or school, provide supporting documents as described above.
