Cheryl Beil

Cheryl Beil, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology, has a wealth of data and knowledge about assessment and student learning outcomes, the undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom, assessment of learning outcomes, and graduate students’ perceptions about their education having served in a number of positions and offices at GW. For 14 years she was Assistant Dean of Students; from there she was asked to direct the new office of Enrollment Research and Retention. In 1998 she moved to academic affairs as director of academic planning and assessment. In 2008, the offices of institutional research and planning and survey research and analysis were moved under academic planning. followed by the 2013 move of the office of the academic editor.

As Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment, Cheryl oversees the Office of Institutional Research and Planning, which handles all the non-financial institutional reporting for GW and serves as a clearinghouse for official university data; the Office of Survey Research and Analysis, which develops student and faculty surveys, analyzes survey data, and administers the online course evaluation system; and the Academic Editor, who produces the academic bulletin. Cheryl is the final reviewer of all course and program proposals and changes, and manages the academic program review process for the office of the provost.

For 15 years Cheryl was a faculty advisor for first year students in Columbian College. In 2001 she received the “Excellence in Academic Advising” award from CCAS, and in 1997 she was the recipient of the GW Award for outstanding contributions to George Washington University.

Since 2007, Cheryl has served as GW’s liaison to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. She co-chaired the 2007-2008 and 2017-2018 decennial self-studies for Middle States accreditation. She has also served as an external reviewer for Middle States.
