Jacob Mayiani is the Director of Institutional Research and Planning at The George Washington University. In this role, he leads the university’s institutional research initiatives, overseeing the design and execution of studies that evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, administrative policies, and strategic initiatives. He is responsible for managing data collection and analysis processes, guiding the development of comprehensive research reports, and supervising office staff while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IRP office.
Before joining GW, Mr. Mayiani served as a Tableau Data Integration Developer at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), where he led key data integration initiatives to enhance data governance and ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements. He also played a critical role in developing business intelligence tools and Tableau dashboards that strengthened the agency’s data-driven decision-making capabilities.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Mayiani was a Data Scientist for Strategic Analysis at Virginia Tech, within the Office of Analytics and Institutional Effectiveness. There, he provided high-level analytical support to university leadership, leading strategic data analysis and developing data visualization tools and dashboards to inform decision-making across multiple university divisions.
Mr. Mayiani also spent over six years at James Madison University as a Data Analytics Specialist in the Office of Institutional Research. He led institutional data collection and compliance reporting efforts, including submissions to federal and state agencies such as IPEDS and SCHEV.
With more than a decade of experience in higher education, Mr. Mayiani is a seasoned data analytics expert with deep expertise in transforming complex data into actionable insights. His work has consistently supported institutional leaders in making informed, strategic decisions.
Mr. Mayiani holds a Master of Science in Integrated Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Geographic Science, with concentrations in Applied GIS and Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development, both from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
